DAWN M. SCHREPEL took up the position of Deputy Director of the Private Office in July 2016, after serving for one year in the U.S. Mission to NATO as Deputy Political Advisor for Partnerships.  A career diplomat with the U.S. Department of State since 2004, she has served as:  Political Adviser at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations responsible for Horn of Africa issues in the UN Security Council; Director for Afghanistan and Pakistan at the National Security Council in Washington; and Special Assistant for Middle East and South Asian Affairs to Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg.  Her overseas assignments include Afghanistan, Hong Kong, and Pakistan.  Prior to joining the Foreign Service, Dawn worked as an energy and environment lobbyist in Washington, DC, and also served as a policymaker at the U.S. Department of Energy and on Capitol Hill.  She has an M.B.A. from George Washington University, and a B.A. from Purdue University.
